Year 10 Design Technology

Subject Description

Teacher in Charge: Ms S. Mountfort.

There are no pre requisites for this course, it is open entry to whoever would like to take it

Project 1 - The Matariki Exhibition - Contemporary corsets

Students are provided with a torso to create a corset piece on, students work in pairs. They can paper mache, fabric mache, use worbla, use EVA foam or any other material of their choice to sculpt, mould, paint and envisage a  piece of art that covers the female torso. A no sew tutu of scrap fabric is made to give the piece WOW factor and use up scrap fabrics to help teach sustainable practices in the classroom. These corsets are then exhibited in a colaboration with languages and other Technology subjects.

Project 3 - What I Love 

Students will use the design process to create their own context, using functional modelling and the design process to create an original and elegant technological outcome. Some examples of these are: Korowai construction, Nail art, Jewelry making, 3D printing, Animation, Website Design, Fashion Illustration, Garment construction. Their limit is their imagination!

Project 2 - PJs, Dress, Hoody, 

Students are also given the opportunity to gain knowledge of sewing, textiles, fabrics and construction techniques by making a garment that includes basic  procedures such as measuring, cutting, seams, casings,pockets and hemming . This is a very fluid project and if students passions are not about sewing, they can negotiate with the teacher a different project.

Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

Students are required to supply materials to complete prototypes.Eg Fabrics, wood, foam board ect
COURSE CONTRIBUTON - $20
The course fee covers all materials required to put the prototype together including glue, art supplies, threads, sandpaper 3D printing filament, and maintenance of all classroom machinery ect
