Subject Description
This course has an open entry, anyone who would like to take it can do so.
End of Year In Situ Project - The Client
Year 13 Design Technology focuses on critical context project based learning using any kind of materials to create a physical outcome and digital technologies to support the theory work of the outcome. This is a 12 credit assessment with two internal achievement standards..
For example, Students can design wearable art to enter into the World of Wearable arts competition Wellington, New Zealand, and use instagram to share their construction process and gain feedback.. Students can create a mini collection to exhibit in a location of their choice (including virtual exhibitions), Students can make Korowai that is then gift as Toanga to special representatives of their whānau or school, while using youtube to create vlogging instructional videos on korowai construction. Student can create a product (shoes, jewellery) using 3D printing and 3D modelling software, Tinkercad.
Students can choose an optional External to gain endorsement, which consists of a design portfolio of their Client work (no more than 20 pages)
Students can also enter Scholarship Technology with a negotiated context of their choice which lasts the whole year
Start of Year Construction Project
Students are also given the opportunity to research and enter a competition. Examples of these are, The Hokanui Fashion Design awards, Light and Dark Photoshop skills competition, Eco Fashion runway awards, Stagequest, HETTANZ wearable art awards. This assessment is worth 4 credits and is internally assessed using the planning achievement standard.

Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
Students are required to supply materials to complete prototypes.Eg Fabrics, wood, foam board ect
COURSE CONTRIBUTION - $50
The course fee covers all materials required to put the prototype together including glue, art supplies, threads, sandpaper 3D printing filament, and maintenance of all classroom machinery ect
