Level 1 History
Subject Description

Learning about the past so we understand why our world is the way it is today.
The History course at Level One introduces you to key historical concepts including significance, perspectives, continuity and change, cause and consequence, and vā.
You will get the opportunity to study different topics which allow you to see these concepts in action.
Our topics include local and international contexts:
International - Achieving Social Justice
- Quest for Civil Rights in the United States
- Pasifika Histories: Colonisation and the Struggle for Independence in Samoa
Local
- Impact of World War One on New Zealand - Gallipoli, influenza pandemic, Māori war effort - Princess Te Puea and Rua Kenana, Ettie Rout's Safe Sex Campaign
- Local History: the settlement of our city Te Whanganui a Tara/Wellington
Recommended Prior Learning
Open to all Year 10 students.
History is a literacy-based course.
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
A laptop is required as most learning is online.
Basic stationery - a folder and refill - is required for writing notes and storing activities.
Pathway
History is a very versatile subject. It supports multiple learning and career pathways.
Many History students go on to pursue careers in areas including law, journalism, policy development and research. History skills are transferable in many other areas including medicine, commerce, management, arts and anthropology.
Credit Information
You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.
