End of Year In Situ Project - My Passion

Year 11 Design Technology focuses on critical context project based learning. Any kind of material is used to create a physical outcome and digital technologies supports the theory work of the outcome. This is a 12 credit assessment with two internal achievement standards. The final outcome is a product intended for the student in collaboration with stakeholders. It is based on the student's passion. The outcome must be designed with a specific event, occasion or use in mind, with appropriate use of social media to enhance the outcomes .

For example students can create a skateboard deck design if they are into skateboarding and have a competition coming up soon. Students can construct a garment that they would like to wear to an event like a birthday party.  Students can make Korowai that is then used as a gift as Toanga to special representatives of their whānau or school. Youtube is then used to create vlogging instructional videos on korowai construction.

Current projects include, headpiece design using 3D printing and various technological materials, Web site design, Jeans making, nail art, eco fashion, fashion illustration, harakeke and 3D printing.

Students can choose an optional External to gain endorsement which consists of a design portfolio of their passion work. This is worth 3 credits.
