Nau mai, haere mai and welcome to Food Technology! We cover four main topics over the course of the year.
TERM ONE: SNACK ATTACK
Ever wondered how crackers are made? How on earth are corn chips created? Muesli bars? In this unit we figure out how to make your favorite snacks from scratch and prove to you that it's far easier than you though.
TERM TWO: WE ARE KAITIAKI
Food waste has a huge impact on climate change. In this unit you will learn about how different cultures minimise food waste, as well as learning how to ferment and preserve foods.
TERM THREE: FOOD TRUCK
This is a student-led project where you will create a food item and sell it to other students during our Food Truck event day.
TERM FOUR: Whangai Nga Tangata / Feed the people
Using the skills we have learned in the food truck project we create a special dining event for an ako class in the school.
In term three you will have the opportunity to sell food with our Food Truck Event which is a student led project.
Voluntary contribution of $100 for ingredients
Nutritionist, dietician, policy advisor, early childhood educator, food technology teacher, health practitioner, food technologist, food writer, food stylist, researcher, food product developer, chef, hotel management.
