Are you wanting to gain Level 3 credits and skills for the workplace?
This course offers Level 3 credits through a mix of three components: classroom based learning, work placements and short courses. The classroom based component focuses on Job Preparation Standards such as Career Planning. Students will also have the option of undertaking a Gateway placement relevant to their career focus. Short courses focus on gaining skills useful for the workplace such as Health and Safety or First Aid qualifications.
We aim to provide a flexible, individualised learning environment which has an emphasis on supporting your achievement.
Students can choose a subject or course that is not taught at SMC. These courses are delivered online. Have a look at the list provided below.
A Year 13 student may want to extend themselves by trying a University course. Canterbury and Waikato University provide a selection of courses that are suited to secondary students.

A flexible opportunity to experience time with an employer of your choice. Pathway into training or employment.
Assisted learning in the Healthcare industry. This can be a gateway course through Careerforce, Porse ,Youthline and Sign language courses. These courses are usually a mix of theory and work placements .
Occasional one-off courses eg barista, bartending, first aid and health and safety courses. These courses are generally one to two days long and carry a number of credits with them. Students gain great work skills and they look great on a CV.
A range of courses delivered through Whitireia/Weltec. The student is committed to being at Whitireia for 1 day a week for the year.
A range of courses that can be studied at Whitireia/Weltec or other ITO providers. These are taster courses that allow the student to experience a vocational pathway option. Usually involves 1 day per week for 5 weeks or a 2 day course.
